I got to thinking today, as we had a visiting artist come and lecture us today, what it would be like to actually accomplish our main goal in life. Is it fame? Is it recognition for all our efforts? Or is it maybe we just want recognition for our sheer talent. If you are a musician and Broadway is your goal, and if once achieved will you find that complete happiness? I dont think so. You will just look for a new goal as that satisfaction is more of just a taste of achievement. It is as if there is no such thing as a complete achievement. And if we do achieve complete achievement what are we going to do, sit and bask in our achievement and say ah...i have done all i can do...and now...i shall die. And that will be that. Because then, wasnt our lives just an effort to contribute to a whole? To contribute to one generation of human life. And really...doesnt that make our lives pointless? As if this life is communism and we are just contributing to a "greater good" and what is that greater good. It seems like my ecology class told me that we were just a virus here on Earth that takes all for itself. Is that what kind of society we want to contribute to?

What Im trying to say, is not to not have goals, but to believe that goals with selfish values are not what will bring you happiness. Justttt sayin.

(Im trying to preach to myself in this case. I hope it works.)And if we believe this so strongly, do we have the strength to give up our selfish ambitions in search for a higher purpose? I hope so.
